I was super excited when the winning vote for this month’s Create with Me Challenge was clay! I’ve been wanting to try my hand at a clay craft and this was the perfect excuse!
I’m starting to get out my fall decor, so decided to make something to go with the season. I love having a candy jar full of seasonal candies and thought a little clay pumpkin knob on top would be adorable! I was worried I’d ruin the knob in the baking process, but am happy to report it turned out exactly like I had pictured it in my head!
Supplies:
Foil Pan for Baking
Candy Jar (I got mine from Hobby Lobby and spray painted the outside of the lid blue.)
This was such a simple and easy DIY! It literally only took me 5 minutes to sculpt the pumpkin! I rolled the clay into a ball, squished it down a bit on the top and the bottom, then made indentions with the blunt edge of a butter knife. So, so easy!
I baked my clay at 275 degrees for one hour and it came out perfect! Once it was cooled, I gave it a quick coat of glaze which really brought out the color and gave it a nice shine! I glued it to the top of my candy jar and was done! I read that you can use a screw on baked clay so I could have attached it with a screw, but since this was my first experience with clay projects, I wasn’t brave enough. Next time!
What are some of your favorite clay projects? I’d love to hear about them! But first, be sure to vote on the material we use in our next challenge!
