Hey, Friends! I’m sorry it’s been so quiet on my little corner of the Internet. It’s the end of summer break, so we’ve been trying to fit in all.the.things. Plus, we’ve had lots of work going on in the bathroom. On top of all that, I decided now would be a stellar time to finish redoing Little Girlie’s room AND our master bedroom. I’m tired, you guys! And apparently crazy. 😉 But, I wanted to give you all a progress update on the bathroom remodel really quick tonight!
Since I last updated you, we had the glass installed for our shower! We went with clear glass to keep the room feeling open and so we didn’t block the view of the window. We requested for the shower glass to have as little metal framing on it as humanly possible and our installer delivered! Aside from a little metal where the bottom and side meets the tile, it is completely frameless. After years of trying to keep mildew out of every nook and cranny of shower frames, I’m ridiculously excited for a shower that is easy to clean! Cue all the applause!
Last week, the drywall/electrical contractors started in on the drywall repair and the wiring work and our new cabinets were installed! We suddenly feel like we’re seeing lots of progress!
We picked out cabinets that marry a shaker style with a more traditional style. I love a good shaker style cabinet, but it felt a little too simple to flow well with the mouldings and cabinets in the rest of the house. We picked these cabinets because they had the clean lines we love while also having just a touch of detail. They are really nice, quality cabinets that will last us for the long haul! Such an improvement from our old, short cabinets with the doors that were falling off! Ha!
Our cabinet contractor found us a carrara marble remnant which we are really excited about! It’s being fabricated right now and will be installed along with the sinks at the end of the week. Eeep! WE WILL HAVE RUNNING WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the cabinet hardware, I pulled out all of my pickiness on our poor cabinet contractor. The pulls he usually uses are really nice, but they just weren’t exactly what I had in mind. Everything looked too modern for this house. I really wanted something that had clean lines, but just a bit of detail to it. They needed to look classic. After much searching, I finally found these Liberty Caspian pulls on Amazon. They are the 5″ length that our contractor recommended for our cabinets and they have a bit of detail to them. Score! I loooooove them!
I had ordered enough to do pulls on the doors, too, but when the installer held them up, they looked too big. I said I was just going to wait and do more incessant, obsessive searching look for the perfect pulls. The installer said he actually had some leftover pulls on his truck that might work and came back in with these! They’re perfect! How he just happened to have the exact type of pulls I wanted in the exact number we needed, I have no idea (thank you Jesus!), but I’m so thankful! And, they gifted them to us! How sweet is that?
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, we had a new ventilation fan installed. Boring, but so necessary! Our current fan is in the toilet room and doesn’t do anything for the main part of the bathroom. As a result, everything was rusting from all of the moisture! Not good…
We picked up this NuTone exhaust fan at Home Depot (you can find it for the same price here on Amazon, too). Let’s be honest, it’s u-g-l-y. But, it’s really powerful, super quiet, and it has a light with nightlight option. Fancy! We cheaped out and didn’t get the one with the heater, though. I’m kinda sad about that. But, the budget is busting at this point, so something had to give. 😉 This tacky number vents through the attic to the outside and should eliminate our moisture issues. #twothumbsup
That’s it for now, Friends! The drywall work should be finished tomorrow, counters and sinks on Friday, and the mirrors should arrive in 3 weeks.
We’ve been chipping away at the work we are doing, as much as we are able to do while waiting on contractors to finish. I painted the toilet room then Jeremy painted the ceiling in there, installed a new light (I forgot to take a picture of that!), and installed the baseboards. I need to paint the baseboards, then Jeremy can install the toilet, toilet paper holder, new fan cover, and reinstall our storage cabinet. Then, we can declare that room complete!
After the contractors finish Friday, we can paint and install baseboards in the main part of the bathroom and install the plumbing fixtures. At that point, we should be able to start using the bathroom, which is SO FREAKING EXCITING! Then, once the mirrors come, we can hang those then have the electrician out to pull out the wiring for the sconces so we can have vanity lights. Yay! Finally, I need to go to Ikea and pick up a cabinet I found for linen storage. I’m so excited about that part and finally getting all of our things organized and put away. Ya know… like not having by toothbrush in the breakfast nook and my hair stuff in the entryway basket. Haha!
Good night, Friends! I’ll be back in the morning to finish up our Room by Room Summer Series!
