Hi, Friends! I’ve been so excited to share a new blog series I dreamed up! This past year, I’ve floated around from project to project. We have made a lot of progress around the house, but I feel like every project has stalled out. I get it up to the 90% mark, then I get stuck or tired or too busy and the project stalls. Does this happen to you?
If you’re like me and are prone to project stalling, this next blog series is for you! I’m calling it the Ten Percent Challenge and we will be tackling that final ten percent together!
Here’s how it will work… At the beginning of the month, we will kick off the challenge by showing where we are in our projects and listing out what the final ten percent of work looks like. You do not have to be a blogger to join! Simply share a picture of your in-progress space and your to do list on my facebook page under the Ten Percent Project logo or tag me on Instagram using the hashtag #tenpercentproject! If you are a blogger and want to join in with a post, you can link up at the end of this post! Just be sure to grab and use the Ten Percent Project logo and link back to this post.
At the end of the month, I will post my completed room here with a link up for bloggers. Readers can post their finished spaces on my facebook page or by using the hashtag and tagging me in your picture! I can’t wait to see what you all do! I have at least five spaces in my house to finish up, so I’m looking forward to the extra accountability and comradeship along the way!
The first room we will be tackling for the Ten Percent Project is the playroom. As you may remember, we started this room as part of the One Room Challenge. Sadly, we hit a month of sickness and were not able to complete it. You can see the before post here, week 2 progress here, and weeks 3-4 progress here. We have made slow and steady progress since recovering from the flu, but have yet to cross the finish line.
Here’s what it looked like last time I updated you all. Jeremy had just finished constructing the built-in and installing the TV. Look how cute he is, smiling dutifully for his blogger wife who always makes him take a million photos! 😉
As soon as I was back on my feet, I got to painting! I used Sherwin-Williams primer and ProClassic paint that I had color matched to the exact shade of white on the cabinets. I was SO impressed with the paint coverage! It took me half as many coats to paint this built-in as it did to paint our living room built-in! Trust me, I was super grateful considering this one is three times as large! I made sure to purchase the paint during their sales and stacked on a coupon, which saved us a bundle!
After the painting was done, we started loading up the shelves with games and books, trying to get a feel for how much room we had and what all needed to be stored on the shelves. Let’s just call this the hot mess stage. It made me all twitchy ever time I entered the room. Haha!
After a couple weeks of playing around with book arrangements, here’s what it looks like. I still have lots of tweaking to do, but it’s coming along.
You may also notice, I finally got around to putting the edge banding onto the raw edge of the countertop. I used this edge banding and it was super easy to apply!
You may also notice, we still haven’t hidden the TV wires. We had an electrician do the wiring, but we didn’t realize there was one more wire we needed installed. Honestly, I can’t remember which one, I just know that’s the hold up. Ha!
We also need to install the cabinet hardware. We originally planned to do a mix of both knobs and pulls, but after trying it out, decided to go with all pulls.
The couch was also delivered and is suuuuuper comfy! We love it! I relocated this end table from Little Girlie’s room and it fits the spot perfectly. Unfortunately, it’s the wrong color. Now to decide what color to paint it… We also got a rug from Wayfair. It’s great quality and so soft! It looks like it’s not being sold from Wayfair anymore, but I did find it for you on Overstock!
This wall is giving me a cramp. I’ve been searching for the perfect artwork or mirror, but haven’t found just the right thing yet.
So, that’s the update! Here’s my to-do list:
-Find artwork for focal wall
-Paint end table
-Add small gallery wall above couch
-Finish hiding TV cords
-Finish tweaking shelves
-Get last cable installed
-Install ceiling fan
Ok, Friends! Go send me a photo of your almost finished projects! I can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on and get our rooms across the finish line together! Be sure to come back at the end of June to share your finished spaces!
