Welcome back to Week 3 of our Deck the Home Blog Hop! This week, we are sharing our DIY outdoor Christmas projects! I had big plans to share how to DIY little tomato cage Christmas trees for the front porch, but when I went to purchase the supplies, I found premade trees for cheaper than the supplies. Um, nope, not about to make something for more than I can buy it premade! That’s just crazy talk! If you’re in the market for little Christmas trees for your porch, check out Walmart! They’ve come down in price a lot the last couple years and are now super affordable! Hooray!
Instead of the trees, I decided to answer a question I keep getting asked when I post photos of my door wreaths–how do I tie the wreath bow? You guys, I am absolutely awful at tying bows! I actually came up with a cheater way to make bows that doesn’t involve tying! It’s quick and easy and you get perfect results every time. You guys have to try it–you’ll thank me when you’re making bows for your Christmas wreaths! 😉
All you’ll need is a hot glue gun and wired ribbon. Start by making a loop in the width that you want your finished bow to be. Secure with hot glue.
Pinch the loop together in the middle over the seam and secure with glue. The side with the seam will be the back side. Now, make two additional identical loops for a total of three.
Cross two loops like a tight X and secure in the middle with hot glue, making sure that the seams are facing down to the back.
Place the third loop like the picture below and secure with glue.
Make a small loop for the center and secure with glue.
Place your small loop in the center, making sure it runs in the same direction as your top loop. Secure with glue.
Cute two strips of ribbon for the tail and cross over at the top, securing with glue. Glue to the back of the bow.
You can glue your bow directly onto your wreaths or attach with floral wire. Or, if you do a basket like I did here, you can secure a loop of ribbon around the basket (I safety pinned mine so I could remove it later on) and glue the bow onto the ribbon. That’s it! Now you have a perfect bow for your wreaths this Christmas season and you didn’t even have to fight with complicated bow tying processes!

Um, this is brilliant! I’m terrible at bows, too, so I’ll definitely be using this little hack in the future! 🙂
