Wahoo, it’s time for another Create with Me Challenge! If this is your first time to the challenge, here’s how it goes… At the beginning of the month, Lindi from Love Create Celebrate and I ask you to vote for which material we will use in a DIY project during the month. Then, the next month, we share our project using that material!
Last month, you voted for us to use terra cotta pots in a DIY project. I haven’t used terra cotta pots in a DIY project before, so was excited to stretch my creative muscles and try something new! Here’s what I came up with!
After lots of inspiration gathering on Pinterest, I decided a drink stand would be the perfect thing to make with my pot. I found this mason jar drink dispenser at Home Goods for $5 last year and love using it for parties, but hate that it has to hang off the edge of the counter in order to get a cup under the spout. My new drink stand gives it the perfect amount of height!
Here’s what I started with:
I gave my pot and plate a couple coats of white satin spray paint. Side note- I hated this spray paint. It was super drippy! 🙁
When the white was dry, I taped off the rim of the pot and sprayed on two coats of chalkboard paint to the lower half. Here’s what it looked like when I peeled off the tape.
I was definitely not satisfied with it at this point. The paint had bled under the tape and just looked messy and the colors were too plain. I was stumped, though, because I wanted to add some sort of color or pattern, but needed it to go with any season of decor, including Christmas.
After some stewing, I decided to paint on some whimsical red poppies to give it a punch of color. The flowers read summer, but also won’t clash with Christmas colors later in the year.
Some E600 glue to secure the plate to the pot and it’s good to go! I love that I can label the drink right on the stand!
Overall, it was a super simple DIY that anyone can make at home!
