One Room Challenge update time!! We’re done with our first week of reno! We made more progress this week than I thought we would, so I’m pumped! In case you missed it, you can see the Week 1 One Room Challenge post here!
We started by clearing everything out of the room. Nice empty room, but holy cow, now the rest of the house is sure a mess! Haha!
After we got all the stuff emptied out, we started on demo. It hurt my heart a little, but we weren’t able to salvage the old built-in. We tried really hard to carefully disassemble it, but the screws were all stripped out, some were inaccessible, the wood was just particle board so tore up super easy, etc, so we ended up having to rip it out. I will say, though, this was my first experience with getting to be aggressive and demo something and it was pretty fun! No wonder Chip likes demo day so much!
After the built-in was out, we started patching the walls. I will admit, after all these years of projects, I’m no better at drywall. It is just not my specialty. We got the walls as smooth as possible, but you can still see some imperfections. If we can find a good drywall company, we may pay to have this wall fixed a little better.
Thankfully, this wall was just a bunch of holes, so it cleaned up nicely with some patching.
Here’s what the room looked like after we got all the drywall smooth and sanded. Hot mess express, right?!
And right at this point… Little Girlie and I came down with a stomach bug. UGH! Such a momentum killer! I was so sad and thought the rest of the weekend was a bust, but while I was sleeping off the bug, this cutie painted for me! Over the years, I’ve become the designated painter of all the things, so it was such a nice surprise and relief to not have to paint this room! Thanks, Babe!
We went with a grayish blue color. I wasn’t sure if I loved the color at first, but once the rug came in I relaxed because it coordinated perfectly! It’s just the right amount of color for the room! In case you’re curious, it’s Sherwin-Williams Upward, and it only needed ONE COAT! Raise the roof for that! They were having their 30% off sale plus an extra $10 off when I purchased the paint which was a major score. I highly, highly recommend springing for Sherwin-Williams paint. There’s such a noticeable difference in quality and coverage and it has saved us so much time because we always need fewer coats! We usually buy when there’s a sale or we have a coupon (Pottery Barn catalogs usually have coupons in them, fyi!) so it doesn’t break the bank.
Thus concludes Week 2! Week 3 has been a little slower because we are waiting for the electrician, but we are still checking things off the list! I’ll update you soon!
