Hi, Friends! Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Ours was relaxing and a nice mixture of family time and productivity that Jeremy and I both appreciate.
One of the projects I tackled over break was finally painting our exterior doors! As a refresher, here’s a picture from this year’s fall front porch set up. The old door color always looked the best in fall!
The coral color was from the previous owners and while it was never something I would pick out, it really added a pop of vibrancy and curb appeal to our house. It’s one of the most commented on elements of our house! However, we have lived here for over 8 years now, so the paint was really wearing out, especially on the back doors that are uncovered and exposed to full sun for hours each day. The paint had lost all its finish and was coming off like chalk.
As you may know from reading this blog, I’m a huge fan of blue. 😉 I’ve toyed with the idea of painting the doors a blue/teal color, but have honestly been afraid to mess up the curb appeal of our house. But, the deterioration of the paint helped finally push me to change up the color. Ready to see???
I absolutely love the new color! It’s definitely more our style and consistent with the interior of our house!
I ended up going with Sherwin-Williams Cloudburst in their Snap paint line. It dries in an hour so you can shut the door which is such a nice feature. To visualize the color, I downloaded their Color Snap app and uploaded the picture of our fall front porch. In the app, you can “paint” an area of a picture to visualize the color. It’s not a perfect rendering and I ended up trying it out on another picture to compare, but it definitely gave us a good idea of colors we liked. I was then able to narrow it down to a couple choices to test out. None of this is sponsored, by the way, just something I found on my own and thought was helpful!
The paint went on well, as expected from Sherwin-Williams paint! I made sure to follow the grain in the door to avoid unsightly paint lines. I used a 2″ short handled angle brush and my Handy Paint Pail. I love that pail!
Overall, it was an easy, but impactful project! What do you think of the new color? I can’t wait to see it in the spring when the greenery out front is lush and leafy! I think it’ll look even prettier!
