Whew, this post was years in the making! Literally!
Unlike Little Man’s Star Wars room that I redid in a weekend, Little Girlie’s room evolved over time. It has morphed from her original purple, “Elsa blue”, and monkeys requests into the colorful, girly room it is today. When she grew out of her crib, we bought her a big kid bed and kicked off her room with freshly painted walls in Sherwin Williams Iceberg, new bedding, and a rug. Because she was so little when we started her room, her tastes and interests have rapidly changed, so we’ve taken our time getting to the finish line. We wanted to make sure the decor we ended up with would stand the test of time!
Now that she is older, we’ve made the final push over the past year to finish up her big kid room. New curtains, fun lights, a vanity, decor, and a bean bag chair make the room feel complete. Thankfully, her love for purple has prevailed and we didn’t have to start over as she grew!
Her room is teeny tiny and has five doors (yes, you read that correctly!), so trying to figure out how to situate a bed was very tricky. We landed on a daybed centered under the windows, since that was the largest wall. We tried the bed out in front of the short attic door for a while, but recently moved it back under the windows. Seeing the attic door peeking out over the top of the daybed looked funny and crowded. We eventually added a trundle to the bed for extra storage. It’s not the sturdiest trundle, so we use it to store things that we don’t need to access frequently.
I love the way the curtains frame out the bed on this wall! Because the windows go across the entire stretch of wall, we had to use a total of four curtain panels to cover the entire wall. We used the same striped curtains we used in Little Man’s room, just in purple. They are great quality, are true blackout curtains, and they don’t break the bank!
The duvet cover is from Pottery Barn a few years ago. I rarely spring for Pottery Barn things, but bedding is definitely worth it! We’ve had this duvet for four years and it still looks new! I put a Target comforter inside the duvet and paired it with fun Target sheets. No need to spend a bunch of money on those things!
I quickly found that decorating a daybed was not my specialty. Haha! I literally just found the last piece to the pillow puzzle this past week! Thankfully, it all came together and looks adorable! The purple pillows are from Home Goods and all the rest are from Target over the past couple years.
Little Girlie is going into second grade and has a good friend who is in middle school who teaches her the big kid ropes. She introduced us to the wonder of fun lighting, so we added an extra long strand of ball lights above her bed. They are so much fun and add such a whimsical touch! They are from Bright Lab Lights and you can customize the color of the balls for your space. They are one of Little Girlie’s favorite things in her room!
Over in the corner beside her bed, I found this cute basket at Home Goods to store her stuffed animals. It fit them all for a while, but we have since outgrown the basket, which leads us to…
the “bean bag” chair. It actually comes empty so you can store stuffed animals inside! It is such a great solution to our chronic stuffed animal storage problems! I was even able to store a couple extra pillows inside as well! It’s inexpensive and comes in a lot of colors, so if you need a place for stuffed animals, definitely grab one!
Did you notice the paper flowers on the wall? These paper flowers have certainly made their way around the internet since I made them three years ago! They have held up really well! I feel like they have faded some, but I also edited the photos differently from the tutorial post, so it is really hard to tell for sure. Regardless, they still look great!
We finally upgraded her dresser to the Ikea Hemnes dresser in the white stain a couple years ago. I love that it’s a true white and not glossy, unlike their more lacquered white finish. I switched out all the knobs for these purple crystal knobs. Little Girlie is obsessed with them!
And, of course, she needed more cool lights on her dresser. Unicorn light and a remote controlled LED initial light from her super cool middle school friend? Check and check. 😉
For her birthday a couple years ago, we gifted Little Girlie this purple vanity and the most realistic fake makeup set you’ve ever seen. It’s crazy how in just a couple years, it’s gone from fake makeup to real lip gloss, scented lotions and sprays, hair accessories, and jewelry! They grow so quickly!
This was a tricky spot to decorate because it needed something on the wall, but frames felt too heavy. I found these light up butterflies a couple months ago at Target and thought they were perfect for this spot! They come in wood, but I painted them purple to match. Such a sweet little touch!
And, finally, the last little corner of her room- the door corridor. The entrance to her room is here as well as the bathroom door, the closet door, and the walk out attic door. It’s such a funny little bump out, but does give her just a bit more space to utilize. It’s the perfect spot for her dollhouse and her ballet barre!
We also added a shelf for some of Little Girlie’s crafting projects. She loves having a spot to display her creations!
Her closet door was the perfect spot to add this little monkey ballerina painting I did for her when we first started working on her room!
And, that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed the tour!
